Airports are gateways and first entry points into Malaysia. With the threat of the Covid-19 virus, it is no surprise that Malaysia Airports is playing its part to help curb the spread of the virus, as well as ensuring the effectiveness of the Movement Control Order (MCO) implemented by the Malaysian government.
Under the MCO, all Malaysians are banned from travelling abroad and there are restrictions on foreigners allowed into the country. However, this does not mean that airports will be closed as an airport is considered as an essential service and will remain open.
Despite this, all of Malaysia Airports administrative staff not involved in operations are now working from home and there are sufficient airport staff to ensure that service level is not compromised.
To avoid crowding, it has put in place measures to promote social distancing. There are markers of 1-meter gap each placed on the floors at the check-in, immigration and customs queueing areas. Gaps are also introduced in lifts and seating’s as a guide for passengers and airport users.
Malaysia Airports has also significantly increased vigilance in maintaining hygiene at all its 39 airports nationwide. Airport personnel work in shifts 24/7 to continuously sanitise the airport’s common facilities such as lifts, counter tops, trolleys, doorknobs and handrails.
These measures are a part of the airport operator’s initiative undertaken to support the government's response in curbing the spread of the Covid-19 virus.Malaysia Airports has also taken to social media to share its messages amongst Malaysians.
Just as many frontlines’ in the health industry proudly hold on banners that read "I stayed at work for you. You stay at home for us",Malaysia Airports’ staff proudly do the same. They, too, are playing an important part to flatten the curve of this deadly disease.
Their message is simple: Malaysia Airports is urging the public to be responsible citizens and to strictly follow the government’s advice and recommendations so that Malaysia will overcome the threat of Covid-19.
